Spectris Generations, and Which One You Have
These three are not interchangeable and the names get used loosely. Identify which you need before you buy.
Which Spectris?
Syringe kits for this platform: Spectris dual syringe kit for the original Spectris, and Spectris Solaris syringe kit for the Solaris and Solaris EP. Every part number is on the syringe cross reference.
Spectris
The original MRI injector. Discontinued by Bayer and still running in a lot of rooms. We supply the syringe kits for it. We do not sell or service the machine.
Spectris Solaris
The successor, pairing contrast and saline. Takes the SSQK 65/115VS equivalent kit (also written SSQK65VS and SSQK115VS).
Spectris Solaris EP
The current generation, with a published Bayer end of life date of 12/31/2028. That date drives most of today's used market.

22-point acceptance, part 1
Inspected and Resealed
Every Spectris Solaris goes through our 22-point acceptance process before it is installed. The first half is hands-on: open it up, clean it, check it, reseal it.
What Gets Opened Up
Covers, gaskets, drive and syringe interface. In the magnet room the work is done with a non-magnetic titanium #2 Phillips, the one tool the job really needs.
Console and hand switch
The display is decontaminated and inspected for screen condition. The hand switch is checked for clean, positive action.
Head covers and gaskets
Front and rear head covers are inspected and their gaskets replaced. Lens caps and manual knobs are checked for cracks and smooth travel.
Syringe wells and drive cables
The syringe wells and their gasket are inspected for integrity. The drive shaft cables that carry motion out to the head are checked for wear.
Ball screws greased, pedestal checked
The ball screws are cleaned and given a light coat of fresh grease. Pedestal covers and casters are checked so the head moves and locks where you need it.

Tested Before It Leaves
The second half proves it works. Every result is recorded on the report you receive at installation.
What Gets Tested
Both sides, independently, every unit. Not a sample.
Operational check
Date and time are set, then full operation is exercised from the console. Forward and reverse load controls are cycled on both sides.
Syringe position
Syringe position is verified on each side against a measured volume. The system knows where the plunger is before it ever injects.
Flow and volume
Each side runs a timed test injection. Duration and delivered volume are measured against manufacturer tolerance.
Pressure and electrical safety
The pressure limit is verified on each side against its rated set point. Ground resistance and leakage current are measured before release.

Which generation it actually is
Spectris, Solaris and Solaris EP are not interchangeable, and sellers use the names loosely. The label on the head settles it.
Where the head will stand in your room
Siting depends on your magnet's field and your room geometry. A unit that worked in the seller's room may not sit where you need it in yours.
Whether the consumables are still supplied
Both platforms are covered by current third-party kits. That is the main reason a legacy Spectris is still worth owning.
Who will service it afterwards
Few independents work on this line. We service the Spectris Solaris and Solaris EP, and we supply kits for the original Spectris.

Yes. 90 days on parts, parts and remote support, from the date of installation.
Not by itself. End of life is an OEM support date, not the day the machine stops. It does mean OEM service and parts wind down and independent service plus third-party consumables become how these units keep running. Read what Bayer actually published.
No. The head goes into the magnetic field and has to be MR Conditional and sited accordingly. This is not a cost-saving substitution, it is a safety one.

Upgrading From an Injector You Already Run
Most Spectris rooms we quote already have an injector standing in them. The old one is part of the deal, not a separate job you have to solve first.
Trade the old one against the new one
One quote, with what your existing injector is worth already taken off it. Simpler than selling a used injector yourself, and it keeps the room covered. What we pay for used injectors.
Moving up a generation
Legacy Spectris to a Solaris, or a Solaris to a Solaris EP. Tell us which you run and what you want it to do, and we will tell you honestly whether the move is worth the money or whether keeping what you have running is the better call.
Siting is part of an upgrade, not an afterthought
A different generation of head does not necessarily stand where the old one stood. Where it can sit depends on your magnet and your room, and we look at that while we are quoting rather than on the day it arrives.
