GE MRI and CT Service Keys

Can an ISO Service Your GE MRI or CT?

Yes. An independent service organization (ISO) can service your GE MRI or CT scanner, but on current GE systems the engineer needs a GE service key to reach the service software. In our experience GE will only set that key up with you, the system owner, so the steps below are yours to take.

Start before you need service. Setting up access with GE takes time, and that time is added to your downtime if you wait until the system is down. We would love it if you choose us. We also want you to know everything you will need, whoever you call.

Yes, an ISO can do the work

Independent engineers service GE MRI and CT every day. The key is what lets them into the service software.

The key is yours to request

In our experience GE will only set this up with the system owner. Plan on your facility doing it, not your ISO.

Start before you call

GE reviews every new account before you can log in. Do it now, not on the day the system goes down.

Have your system details ready

GE asks for your system ID or serial number, plus a 16-digit code. On GE CT both are on the scanner's System Information screen.

Why GE Service Needs a Key Now

Servicing a GE system used to be simpler. Security has caught up with the equipment.

Older GE Systems Were Open. Current Ones Are Not.

On older GE systems the basic service tools came with the system, and any qualified engineer could use them. As the equipment improved, so did its security, and GE now controls who can reach the service software. Getting that access is an involved process, and it has to be done by the customer.

Older systems were open
Basic service tools shipped with the system. Any qualified engineer could use them without asking GE.
Current systems need a key
Service functions sit behind a key that GE issues. Without one, an engineer cannot run the tools the job needs.
The key is tied to your system
GE issues the key against your scanner's system ID and 16-digit code, not against an engineer. It stays with the machine, so keep a copy with your service records.

How to Get Your GE Service Key

This is the process on GE HealthCare Service Shop as of October 2026. If a step looks different, GE has changed its site; call the number in step 4.

Five Steps, All Done by the System Owner

Start at GE HealthCare Service Shop registration. Once GE approves the account, keys are looked up on GE's Service Keys and Documents page. Manuals are separate and public: search them on GE's manuals page. GE lists its phone numbers on its Service Shop contact page.

1. Register on GE Service Shop
Create an account at GE HealthCare Service Shop USA for your facility, and include your GE customer account number if you have one. In our experience the account has to be yours, not your ISO's.
2. Wait for GE to approve it
GE reviews every account before you can log in, and how long that review takes is entirely on GE's side. Nobody outside GE can speed it up. This is the step that catches people out.
3. Look up your key
Log in and open Service Keys and Documents. Enter your system ID or serial number, and the 16-digit code from the scanner (see the FAQ below).
4. Call GE if you get stuck
Call GE at 1-800-437-1171 and select option 1 for service documentation or service licenses. Have your system ID in front of you.
5. Pass the key to your ISO
Send the key to the engineer who will service your system. Keep a copy with your service records for the next visit.

Before You Call an ISO

What to have ready

An approved GE Service Shop login, your GE customer account number, your system ID or serial number, and the 16-digit code. Someone at the site who can take a call from GE.

Find your manuals

GE's manuals search is public and needs no login. Service, installation and operator manuals are searchable by product.

Local is not the point. Familiar is.

Anyone can be nearby. What matters at 6am is that the person who answers has already had the covers off your scanner. That is worth building before you need it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Independent service organizations service GE MRI systems every day. On current systems the engineer needs a GE service key to reach the service software, and in our experience GE sets that key up with the system owner, so get it done before you schedule service.

Yes, and the key process is the same as for MRI. You register on GE HealthCare Service Shop, wait for GE to approve the account, then look up the key with your system ID or serial number.

Register on GE HealthCare Service Shop, wait for GE to approve the account, then log in and open Service Keys and Documents. Enter your system ID or serial number and the 16-digit code for imaging equipment. If you get stuck, call GE at 1-800-437-1171 and select option 1.

In our experience, no. GE sets this up with the system owner, so the account and the request need to come from your facility. Your ISO can tell you what the job needs.

Before you need it. Registration has to be reviewed and approved by GE before you can log in, and that wait is not something we or you control. Start it while the system is still running, and gather your system details at the same time. The part you do control is not beginning the day you go down.

Your system ID or serial number, and for imaging equipment a 16-digit code. You must also be registered and approved on GE Service Shop before you can look anything up.

On GE CT, select Service on the console and the System Information screen comes up on its own. The code is the row labeled System 16 Digital Code, with the System ID a few rows above it. It is 16 letters and numbers, not just digits, so copy it exactly. The screen displays even before the system has a valid service key.

Call GE at 1-800-437-1171 and select option 1 before you register, and have the system ID or serial number ready. GE's registration asks for a GE customer account number if you have one, so expect extra steps if you do not.

Ask GE directly. What a given account can request depends on the scanner and on your account with GE, and we are not the right source for that answer. Call GE at 1-800-437-1171 and select option 1 before you register, with your system ID in front of you.

No. GE sells technical service training, but you do not need it to get a key for your ISO.
