Short answer: yes. Titanium is one of the few common metals that is genuinely non-magnetic and MRI-safe. It does not respond to the static or gradient magnetic fields used in MRI imaging, does not become a projectile inside the magnet room, and does not cause significant artifacts in most clinical MR sequences. Why Titanium Is MRI-Safe

Titanium passes this test. Pure titanium and the most common medical and engineering alloys — Grade 2 (commercially pure) and Grade 5 (6Al-4V) — are paramagnetic. Their magnetic susceptibility is roughly four orders of magnitude lower than steel. In practical terms, titanium does not attract to the magnet and is classified as non-ferrous for MRI safety purposes.

Patients with titanium implants — including screws, plates, rods, joint replacements, and dental hardware — can safely undergo MRI scans in most cases. The American College of Radiology and implant manufacturers have extensively tested titanium hardware in MRI environments. While minor image artifacts can occur near the implant site, titanium does not heat significantly, does not migrate, and does not pose a projectile risk.
That said, patients should always inform their MRI technologist about any implanted hardware before a scan. The technologist will verify the specific implant model against established MRI safety databases.
