Spectris Solaris Battery Getting Weak? The Signs to Watch

A car battery rarely dies without warning, and neither does a Spectris Solaris pack. As it ages, the injector shuts off and throws faults before it stops powering up.

Injections run on the pack

So a tired battery tends to show up mid-study first.

Faults come first

Shutdowns and BATT or CVH faults often show up before the injector goes dark.

Rule it out for less

Trying a pack costs less than a service call to hear it's the battery.

What a Weak Pack Looks Like

Shuts off mid-injection
A weak pack often quits partway through a study, and the patient goes back on the schedule.
Battery level may drop fast
The level on the control room screen may look fine at rest, then drop quickly once an injection starts.
Control room loses the injector
The control room loses its link to the scan room unit, or the head stops responding.
Doesn't last like it used to
It runs down early in the day, or is flat after sitting overnight.

Faults a Weak Pack Throws

Battery and Voltage Faults

Write down the code before you power anything down.

BATT: scan room battery
The injector found a problem with the scan room battery. It's the most direct battery code it shows.
CVH: scan room critical voltage
A critical voltage in the scan room unit is out of spec. A pack that sags under load can trip it.
Clears on a restart, then comes back
Medrad reads that as a voltage transient. If it keeps coming back, we check the pack first.
Won't power up
In our experience, that's the battery far more often than anything else.

Why Packs Wear Out

Sealed Lead-Acid, Working Every Study

It carries every injection
The pack powers every injection, so it works hard every study.
Age and charge cycles
Like any sealed lead-acid battery, packs lose capacity with age and charge cycles.
Fine at rest, weak under load
A worn pack can read fine sitting still and sag the moment the motors pull hard. That's why the faults come first.

Faults a Pack Won't Fix

If a good, charged pack changes nothing, it's a service call, and we do those on site.

Charger
A fresh pack runs fine but never charges back up.
Fiber optic link
A damaged cable or a failed interface card drops the link no matter how good the pack is.
POWR: power drive card
A card fault. A new pack won't fix it.
CVD: control room voltage
The control room unit runs on wall power, not the battery, so a new pack won't touch it.

Try a Pack First

Calling someone out first

A diagnostic service call with travel typically runs over $1,000, often to find the battery. Then you still need a pack.

Trying our pack

Our pack ships in 1 to 2 business days, free both ways. If it fixes the problem, your cost is $800 once your old pack comes back.

If it isn't the battery

Send ours back within 15 days and you're out at most $160, the 20% restocking fee. In a few days you know a service call is the right next step.

Spectris Solaris Battery Questions

The scan room unit runs on its battery during every injection, so a pack that can't hold its voltage under load often quits mid-study.

The injector found a problem with the scan room battery. It's the most direct battery code on the Solaris and Solaris EP, and a different pack is the first thing to try.

There's no set number of years. Like any sealed lead-acid battery, packs lose capacity with age and charge cycles, and age usually shows up as shutdowns and faults first.

Yes. Medrad's service manual lists one battery pack for both. The Bayer part numbers are 60721015 and 3012070.

If your symptoms match this page, try a pack first. A service call with travel typically runs over $1,000, and if it isn't the battery you're out at most the $160 restocking fee.
